Lowest-level cache misses are satisfied by the main memory through a specific address mapping scheme that is hard-coded in the memory controller. A dynamic address mapping scheme technique is investigated to provide higher performance and lower power consumption, and a method to throttle memory to meet a specific power budget. Several experiments are conducted on single and multithreaded synthetic memory traces -to study extreme cases- and validate the usability of the proposed dynamic mapping scheme over the fixed one. Results show that applications’ performance varies according to the mapping scheme used, and a dynamic mapping scheme achieves up to 2x increase in peak bandwidth utilization and around 30% higher energy efficiency than a system using only a single fixed scheme Moreover, the technique can be used to limit memory accesses into a subset of the memory devices by controlling data allocation at a finer granularity, providing a method to throttle main memory by allowing un-accessed devices to be put into power-down mode, hence saving power to meet a certain power budget.

In this book, linear feature extraction issue is firstly tackled by detecting amplitude discontinuities (i.e. edges) of the signal. Next, the obtained result is refined by an edge linking stage so that, finally, the boundary of the object of interest is extracted throughout a higher-level model. Initially, the speckle model is exploited for improving edge detection operation. Next, to free the process by statistical assumptions of data, general multiscale linear filtering is investigated. The edge linking stage makes use of the sequential edge linking (SEL) algorithm with two novel metrics useful to cope with the one-look SAR data. The algorithm devised to extract linear features (e.g. roads and runways), relies on the Hough Transform framework and tries reconstructing the object boundaries as composition of linear segments. Finally, to improve edge detection performance and approach a higher level of processing, a novel despeckling algorithm is presented. It belongs to the class of non-linear, anisotropic diffusion filters that apply a partial differential equation (PDE) onto the image in analysis.
Along with the implementation of electronic KTP (National ID Card that is powered by smart card technology), the Government of Indonesia has also planned to implement electronic voting or E-Voting for National Voting in year 2014. To realize this major plan, thorough planning, design, and implementation of the new system should be done. BPPT (Badan Penerapan dan Pengkajian Teknologi) has been chosen by the government to conduct research about this new E-Voting system. They currently already have a prototype of E-Voting system, but it lacks a verification module using fingerprint scanner, and is still using costly Microsoft Windows operating system. This book will focus on the planning, design, and implementation of automated fingerprint identification system specifically built for E-Voting which is fully based on open source software.
This book interrogates the suitability of wireless technologies to implement an eBusiness infrastructure in Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in developing countries, particularly in Kenya. A research model was developed based on literature and information obtained from a pilot study. A preliminary study was conducted to refine the proposed model and inclusion of any variables limiting the suitability of wireless technologies as MSEs’ eBusiness infrastructure. The proposed model was empirically tested using data collected using a survey questionnaire and five descriptive case studies. The constructs were assessed for reliability, validity and exploratory factor analysis using SPSS and validated via a confirmatory factor analysis using Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS maximum likelihood method. Most Kenyans live in rural areas of the country with no access to mainstream technologies and a considerable digital divide exists, particularly between the urban and rural areas. This necessitated an intra-country comparison of access and use of wireless technologies in rural and urban MSEs in implementing an eBusiness infrastructure.
